Ketek Shines at Suncor Base Plant: Stellar Performance and Exciting Ventures for 2024!

Our Suncor operations at Base Plant continue to be a steadfast performer providing support to multiple Suncor Business Units. Eric Ayotte, Brian Rolheiser and Amarpaul Gill lead a team that has a solid reputation on-site for managing a large workload safely, running a tight ship, and providing top-quality service to our many clients.

Ketek operates numerous critical dewatering systems that are vital to the site’s production, as well as to meet its regulatory requirements. There is no little to no tolerance for unplanned downtime, spills, overflows and frozen lines, and our crew, with the support of our Project Managers and Suncor, do a tremendous job of achieving this year after year.

It takes a lot of coordination to navigate through planned and unplanned work as it fluctuates greatly with last-minute requests, managing rainfall events, and ensuring the crew is trained and experienced in the many areas and differing scopes we complete. Ketek’s Base Plant is one of the more challenging clients we work with due to the fact that our services are shared between multiple business units, where managing daily manpower, scheduling work, and predicting future manpower requirements is an ever-changing environment. Eric and his leadership team have been able to do this seamlessly.

I’ve been to the site many times over the years, and one of my questions to our clients is how our team is performing for them.  Time and time again, each Business Unit has nothing but good things to say about Ketek’s on-site crew. Again, this is a reflection of the support that is provided by the Fort McMurray branch, Project Managers and other support services.

Looking towards 2024, we’ve been involved in a new and exciting project where we’ve been employed by a company to help design and develop a dewatering system at the Base Plant that consists of vaults, sumps, large turbine pumps, control skids, and a number of diesel pumps that will be fully automated. The workload is falling primarily on Shawn Dobson and his power services team at this stage with the help of Syed Rizvi as Project Manager.
