Mining Services is pleased to announce Imperial Oil’s approval to procure 18 new IPCS, 18 MCS & 18 Deep Well pump packages from Ketek. To power all these new systems, there will be an additional 18 more gensets on long-term rent. In total, there will be upwards of 76 gensets on rent 24/7 by the end of November 2023. In order to support the operation of these 18 wells and winter work, the client has recently approved the request to provide additional manpower (2 electricians and 6 pump techs) on site.

It takes a strong leadership, crew and service team to look after that many well systems to ensure there is little to no downtime, especially in the winter months. Jaime Filipe-Cholak has led the charge with Terry Fisher for a number of years at Kearl Lake with great success. The client relies heavily on these two as well as the rest of the crew for all their well system and dewatering requirements and relays many thanks throughout the year for helping them through some tight spots. Collectively, Ketek is very proud of this team and what they have been able to achieve.

These dewatering systems are a vital function of their overburden and mining dewatering needs, which highlights Imperial’s trust in Ketek’s ability to produce a quality, proven product along with the safe operation and maintenance.

With that being said 2024 is projected to have an exponential increase in dewatering wells and systems with upwards of 45 more vertical wells, 3 more horizontal wells, 6 Geotech wells and a permanent power system. The support of Power Services and Manufacturing are a large proponent of these builds and ensuring a quality product is delivered. The Mining Services Team thanks them for all their efforts, as well as the Fort McMurray Team for the site and service support they provide.

Ketek successfully implemented a Temporary System to monitor the Horizontal Wells at BDP 22/23 the previous week. This needed to be completed in short notice due to groundwater issues at the location. However, thanks to the Power Services team we were able to complete this on time.
